Heritage of Malacca

by Irfan Redzwan

Malaysia is a developed country. It is inconsistent with Singapore, which has managed to make progress in clinical science, but continued to increase from Indonesia. Shops have a fixed price on their belongings; Transport costs and ticket prices remain stagnant them; everyone, whether people, either speak English or know someone who does; wide street, multi lanes and efficient; food was clean, very diverse and inexpensive; you do not get people everywhere you go; and tourists are not the source of the awesome and intrigue, they just received and so is ignored.

The most historic state in Malaysia is Melaka. Melaka is scattered with its remnants of the golden age of about 500 years. Starting in Bukit St. Paul, one will find in the ruins of St Paul Church hill, which was established by the Portuguese as a synagogue. Portuguese fort nearby, A Famosa is one of the oldest examples of European architecture in Southeast Asia. Fortress was built as a foothold Portuguese, and as a defense against the English and Dutch. At the foot of St Paul's Hill is the Tomb of the Netherlands. Gazetted as a national monument in 1976, the site back to the last part of the 17th century.

I have been following the group class to Malacca to learn and appreciate more deeply concerned about the historical state in addition to complete tasks assigned by the lecturers. The group moved from Unisel Shah Alam as early as 9am and arrived in Melaka at 12 noon. A total of 38 students and a lecturer has joined this group. The main purpose of this group is to learn how to specialize in the field of photography.

We all have settled in Ramarama Designer Boutique Hotel. It is a very appropriate concept dorm with our party to stay for 3 days 2Nights Melaka. Our first activity was to visit the Stadthuys building. The Stadthuys building is all red and features a clock tower. Stadhuys ( "town hall" in Dutch) is a historic building is adjacent to the Christ Church in Jalan Laksamana, Melaka, Malaysia. This building was built in 1650 as the official placement of the Dutch Governor and Deputy Governor, in which the structure of the building symbolizes the subtle art of Dutch design.

The Stadthuys Building is one of the oldest buildings built by the Dutch Government in Malacca. The building also has its history in the field of education, which in the 19th century when the British government, a school run by the clergy known as the Melaka Free School was built in the compound Stadthuys. When that school education is provided free by the British. However, most of the students in the school was made up of children of wealthy Chinese.

Next, the historical record shows a letter dated 19 April 1825, stating the need to set up an English school in Melaka. In addition, the letter was sent to the municipal council signed by the representative of the church, Mr. J.Humprey, J.W. Overee and A.W. Baumgarten. Eventually the school was opened on 7 December , 1826 with only 18 students. The first Malacca Free School Principal is Mr. T.H. Moore. Next, shortly after the number of students at the school has increased up to 200 people. The number of Malay students at that time was not as much as most parents send their children to Malay schools or religious schools.

In August 1878, the British government took over the administration of the school of the clergy and named Malacca High school. In addition, the Square is located in the Netherlands, Stadthuys appears majestic and impressive with large windows, doors and stairs. On the outside, there was a ledge of stone stairs leading to a small balcony next to which is also accessible through a door on the first floor. During the Dutch rule in Melaka Stadthuys, like all other Dutch administrative buildings in Southeast Asia, it is also painted white. Through the English-Dutch agreement in 1824, Melaka was handed over by the Dutch and the city became British colonies. In 1911, the British paint Stadthuys and Christ Church with red salmon. The real reasons why the building was painted red by the British is now lost to history but legends and theories related still a lot. Melaka is steeped in history and is one of the best examples of multicultural colonialism in existence.

The Stadthuys

We spent my first day in Melaka exploring the museum and the cultural peculiarities of this charming place. There is no doubt that the history of Melaka has not been washed away by the coming of Islam. They are actively withdrawn as a tourist attraction, and the major museums are very good. On the other hand, exhibits related to the life of Muslims in Melaka found as a surprise to those who may not be familiar with the ways of Islam, perhaps because the average Westerner is not exposed to the details of the deal, and ignorance is the translator of the terrible . We also visited A Famosa Building.

A Famosa or Porta de Santiago means 'famous' in Portuguese. This town was built by the Portuguese once captured Malacca in 1511. turn drive, A Famosa is located right in Bandar Hilir, Melaka next to a replica of the Malacca Sultanate Palace and the Church of St. Paul. In addition, the A Famosa building built to repel the attacks of the Malay people and took 5 months to build. Next, the construction materials taken from the ruins of the mosque and other buildings were destroyed by the construction of A Famosa war on the orders of Alfonso de Albuquerque.

In addition, the A Famosa built so sturdy that it can help the Portuguese to face any enemy attack to conquer Melaka. Hence, when the Netherlands wants to conquer Melaka, the team has been besieged the city for 5 months. While people trapped inside had to eat cats, rats and there was also a woman who is willing to take her baby was dead.

However, the A'Famosa Melaka intact until now and more and more tourists from within and outside berhabis money willing to look at the structures of the buildings that still remain in Melaka. Most tourists really praise this historic place and it will remain to commemorate the history taking place in Melaka.

A Famosa

Melaka River is the most important river during the Malacca Sultanate and it has its own value in the side of the river because it is municipality, settlements, burial, business, shipping, ports and more since hundreds of years ago. River estuary is located in Bandar Hilir it keeps many stories and tales from the days of the Malacca Sultanate until the transition time to the colonial Dutch, Portuguese, English and Japanese. Once upon a time, the Melaka River was once labeled among the most polluted rivers in the country and now the state government wakes up the glory of the Melaka River.

As it is known, the history of the sultanate of Melaka began with the arrival of Parameswara, a Srivijaya king from Palembang who reigned from 1400 to 1424. Melaka obtained his name in conjunction with the name of the tree where the Parameswara sheltered. At that moment, a strange thing happened where a white deer had kicked the king's dogs. Looking at the incident, Parameswara was impressed and ordered the area to be opened and named as Melaka state. Now known as the historic city of Melaka because it really is a state in Malaysia is rich in history. One of the values is the most important historical Malacca River.

Various efforts and approach is done in order to rehabilitate and restore the glory of the river, which was once a major trading center in Southeast Asia. Little by little, the face of the Melaka River today has been transformed. These efforts were not in vain when today more tourism products newly added as five star hotels, exclusive restaurants and souvenir shops that are set up along the river. The transformation also includes efforts with regard to the concept of lighting the area between Hang Tuah Bridge to Bridge Hang Tuah. At the same time Bridge Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat Bridge also upgraded, repair the pedestrian bridge in Kampung Morten and pedestrian bridge near the old bus station and bridge repair Tan Khoon Cheng besides several development projects in the area of the mouth of the Melaka River. Around the traditional Malay village of Kampung Morten, also available walkway along the Melaka River called River Boardwalk.

For the second day, we were given an assignment in groups. The assignment is a challenge for us to find out more about the history of Melaka. Our lecturers pose challenges to every society and must be completed within a predetermined time. Challenges such as the Game Explorer to increase our knowledge on the history of Melaka. Tasks initiated at Menara Taming Sari, a variety of assignments given to test the mental and physical. Among climb stairs to the top of the hill behind the town Afamosa. We are also given the task of taking a photo with foreign tourists and making short videos about the Samudera Shrine museum. Upon completion of the last assignment given at the Melaka Parade, we were given the time to make free activities until 4pm.

At night, we brought up the Malacca River Cruise (MRC). By taking the Melaka River Cruise, you can experience a spectacular voyage of six kilometers down the Melaka River for 45 minutes. When we boarded the Melaka River Cruise, we can enjoy the view of the buildings and shop houses relics of the era of Dutch, Malay traditional houses and many more interesting sights of historical heritage of the world. The Melaka River Cruise allows visitors to cross the Melaka River and now appears among the popular tourist activities in Melaka, especially at night.

A variety of new attractions were set up along the river between water wheel, Eye On Melaka, musical fountains and much more to popularize the Melaka River on the international stage. The most interesting of the Melaka sultanate Windmills built in 2007 and completed in 2008 structured Islamic technology which can be obtained in Syria and Lijiang, China. Throughout the 45-minute journey, we walked through seven bridges, the Kampong Morten bridge, the old espresso bus bridge, the Hang Tuah bridge, the Pasar Bridge, the Kampong Jawa bridge, the Chan Koon Cheng bridge and the bridge, Tan Kim Seng.

Old Melaka, with its side streets, temples and antique shops tucked into a bend in the Melaka River, is also a delight to walk around, and it gave us a goodchance to join in with a local custom.

By the end of our last day in Melaka, we visited the Kuih Keria Antarabangsa Melaka. This Kuih Keria phenomenon becomes viral because the customers who want to buy it need to queue for 1 to 2 hours to buy it. Customers also can only buy limited as much as 20 seeds only for one customer. This Kuih Keria has also been sold for 40 years and is still inherited by family members. The Melaka Government has recognized this Kuih Keria as one of the tourism products in Melaka.

Last but not least, the trip that I joined this very gave and opened my mind to know history more deeply. This trip will also promote a sense of camaraderie and collaboration between teams.
