Top-Selling Korean Primer That Will Give You “Glass Skin”

BY MILA RAHMAT

For today's blog, we’re all explaining on skin care first, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love a good makeup product that can take our glow to the next level. Here, are the review one of the top-selling primers in Korea that claims to be the key to achieving “glass skin”.

Like many young girls in the late ’90s, I was obsessed with Bath and Body Works’ Art Stuff line, specifically the blueberry roll-on glitter. While I’m fairly certain the glitter was meant to be applied on the body, I liked to slather the twinkly formula all over my face. I’ve since toned down my everyday look, but I still can’t resist a good shimmer-flecked product.

A new favorite is the VDL Lumilayer Primer. It’s been a top-selling product in Korea for a while, but it just launched in the U.S. in the beginning of August. The formula is pearlescent and violet-tinged and designed to give you a luminescent glow, and to extend the wear of your makeup. The brand is calling it “the secret to glass skin”, the k-beauty trend of having a complexion that’s so glowy and even, it looks like glass.

I have dry skin, which means my complexion can often look dull and flat, despite a regimen of brightening serums and ultra-hydrating creams. After applying the primer all over my face, my skin looks instantly dewy – in a natural way (for a more intense glow, you can always add another layer). Because the formula is light-reflecting, I find that I don’t even need to wear my go-to highlighter because my cheekbones are already beaming.

The formula itself packs a punch, but feels lightweight. I find my foundation goes on smoother over top of it and that I don’t need as much coverage. I know I shouldn’t wear makeup to the gym, but on the occasions when I do, I know my makeup will still look nearly flawless even after a HIIT class with the primer on.

On low maintenance makeup days, I like to use it solely as a highlighter for a little complexion boost. I add quick swipes along the tops of cheek and brow bones, down the nose, and on the cupid’s bow. I couldn't share my picture due problem with my phone but this are the result on MUA or Make Up Artist Nam Vo.

Makeup artist Nam Vo, who is known for creating what she calls “dewy dumpling” looks, is also a major fan of the Lumilayer Primer. At a recent masterclass in New York City, allure.com reported that she applied the primer over the tops of a model’s cheekbones, layered liquid foundation over that and then went over the area with the primer again as a base for powder highlighter (which would pop even more thanks to Lumilayer). The results (pictured above) were out of this world.
